This year is the 125th Ashbourne Show. In order to accommodate the many and various celebrations and displays we have planned for this, we have had to make some changes to the show rings in the Light Horse Field. These changes are for this year only. The Horse of the Year Show Ridden Hunter classes, which usually take place in the main ring first thing in the morning will be held in Ring 2. This gives our local rider classes the chance to take centre stage in the Main Ring and these are scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m. having been preceded by ridden Mountain and Moorland classes.

We are delighted to be holding a Royal International Horse Show qualifier for Ladies Hunter’s again and this class will now take place in Ring 2, directly after the Ridden Hunters. For the first time this year we are holding a class for Riding Club Horses (under Sports Horse Breeding (GB) rules) ridden by a member of a British Riding Club who is also classed as an amateur under SHB(GB) rules. We hope this class is well supported and, hopefully, it will bring new competitors along to the show.

We are very grateful to be sharing our 125th show with several long standing sponsors and we would like to pass on our thanks and appreciation to The Eques-Train, Pool House Equine, Uttoxeter Racecourse, Arbormasters, I-Quip, Sophie Knight and Shaws Equestrian. If anyone would like details of any of our sponsors, please look for their adverts in the show guide or contact the Light Horse Secretary.

The show could not, of course, take place without our competitors and our volunteers. Your support is very much appreciated. If you have any comments or suggestions for the show, or if you would like to know how you can get involved in the future, either as a sponsor or by helping out, please get in touch – we would be delighted to hear from you. .

Please Note - Passports for all animals MUST be available for inspection and random checks will be made throughout the day.

Visit the displays from local branches of the WI, Ashbourne Vintage Tractor Club, Young Farmers and Ashbourne Camera Clubs, pop in at the Goat tent or enter the competitions in the Handicraft and Horticulture marquee.

  • Do I have to be a member of Ashbourne Shire Horse Society to Compete?

No, you do not have to join Ashbourne Shire Horse Society unless you wish to do so. Membership of the society costs £25 per year and entitles you to the following privileges – reduced entry fees to the light horse classes, free admission to the showground for one member, one guest and two children, advance car park, admission to the membership enclosure and grandstand, information on the society and its fund raising events held throughout the year.

  • Do I have to be a member of any Show Societies to Compete?

Several of the light horse classes do require you and/or your horse to be members of various showing societies (for example The British Show Horse Association for Horse of the Year Show qualifiers). These classes are clearly marked in the schedule along with the membership requirements. Please make sure you read these carefully as you may not be allowed to compete on show day if you and/or your horse are ineligible for a particular class.

  • Do I Need to Bring My Horse’s Passport to the Show With Me?

Yes, you are required to have your horse’s passport with you on the showground. Random checks will be made.

  • Any Other Questions or Suggestions?

If you have any other questions or if you would like to make any suggestions or give us any feedback on your experience at Ashbourne Show please contact either the light horse secretary or the show secretary through the website or ask any of our stewards on show day. We would appreciate receiving any suggestions or feedback on the show.
