Ashbourne Shire Horse Society is pleased to welcome Admiral Sir Trevor Soar as our President for 2019.
Sir Trevor served in the Royal Navy for 37 years achieving a tremendously successful career attaining the highest rank in the Service as an Admiral. He held many positions including 5 independent commands from Captain as a 29 year old of submarine HMS Ocelot, then submarine HMS Talent and frigate HMS Chatham to becoming captain of the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible in the period shortly before she was decommissioned.
His final command was the whole of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines (36,000 people) as the Commander in Chief. He was also the NATO Maritime Commander with operational command of all ships and submarines from across the 27 NATO countries and held the honorary position of Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom.
Since his retirement he has been living in Boylestone with his family.
On becoming President he said:
"I am deeply honoured to be this year’s President of the 128th Ashbourne Show.
A few years ago, my late and well respected friend Bill Carr asked me if I would be President this year. Unfortunately, he is no longer around to see it, but I become President mindful of the enormous part Bill played in the Ashbourne Show over many years and the high regard in which he was held.
This year we see quite a contrast to previous Presidents in someone who has spent his lifetime at sea not on land. However, I have had strong links to this area throughout my life and on retirement from the Royal Navy returned to my roots. It is therefore an enormous privilege to be your President for 2019 and I very much look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this year’s Ashbourne Show.”
Sir Trevor’s unique insight and experience brings immeasurable value to the Society and we wish him every success in his year as President.
