"Meeting with the President Charles Hollis and Chairman Bill Carr at the 2013 show, I was asked if I would be the President of Ashbourne show in 2016. I was told the Society would be 125 years old in that year and I accepted with honour and great pride.
Along with my father Tom Yates I have been showing at Ashbourne Show since 1956 and in my own name since 1980. I presented a trophy for the Supreme Champion Shire in 1988 in memory of my father. Attending Ashbourne Show for over 60 years, I hope I can be forgiven for missing three shows, being on honeymoon for one of them and judging abroad on the other two occasions.
Since being involved with the Show meetings it is obvious that Ashbourne Shire Horse Society is a vibrant organisation with some very forward thinking ideas, but also relying on the knowledge of those, who have been there and done it before.
With an ambitious goal to have a parade of 125 shire horses at the Show and to continue to develop all sections for the future. I will endeavour to give my full support to achieve this spectacle.
Hope the sun shines on us and we all have a good day.
