Shire Horses at The Ashbourne Show
Ashbourne is very well supported by exhibitors from far and wide and we hold the HOYS in hand qualifier on a bi-annual basis. Shire judging is in a separate ring above the main ring with plenty of seating for spectators.
In recent years we have introduced an Any Other Breed in hand heavy horse class and for the last two years a Ridden Heavy Horse class which was a HOYS qualifier last year and will be again this year. The Ridden class is judged in the main ring after lunch and is a magnificent sight and it is well worth making a note to be ringside.
We also have a young handler qualifier class and the winner goes on to compete at the Shire Horse Foal Show held in September.
FAQ's
6am. All animals are asked to stay on the showground until 4.30pm or after Grand Parade whichever is the late.
